Womens Ski Clinics

First session free of charge! Come and see what it’s about!
We are offering a special series of clinics specifically designed to help women skiers enjoy Cannon Mountain with skill and confidence. Your instructor, Randy Trainor is a Level 3 Certified Instructor and has taught skiing in Colorado, New Zealand, and Austria and at Attitash and Loon Mountains. She was a race coach for the Franconia Ski Club for 7 years and has been teaching the women's clinics here at Cannon for the past 4 years.
Groups are available for both intermediate and advanced level skiers on Saturday, and intermediate level skiers on Sunday. See below for details. The program begins on Saturday, January 2rd.
The cost is only $40.00 per session!
SATURDAY'S program will emphasize skill building from one week to the next, though drop-ins are encouraged and welcomed.
Intermediate Skiers 9:00am - 11:00am For those who can ski all of the green trails and some of the blue trails. We will focus on improving your skiing skills so that you will become comfortable skiing all of the blues and some easy blacks by the end of the season. No longer will you be struggling to keep up with your family, and you will discover the pure joy of skiing!
Advanced Skiers 12:30pm - 2:30pm Open to those who are comfortable skiing the entire mountain. We will also work on improving your skiing skills as well as mogul skiing, tree skiing and (if Mother Nature cooperates) powder skiing. Do you really want to understand those skiing moves your children are learning? This is the place!
SUNDAY'S program runs from 9:30am - 11:30am for Intermediate skiers and will feature a different topic each week:
• Jan. 3rd – GETTING STARTED ON THE RIGHT FOOT - STANCE & BALANCE:
Getting comfortable with how you stand and move.
• Jan. 10th – SPEED CONTROL
Skis getting away from you? Feel out of control? What happens on ice (Say what? Ice? Tell us it ain’t so!) Getting into your comfort zone and dealing with adverse conditions.
• Jan. 17th – GETTING MORE DYNAMIC
Are you really carving your ski? Does your turn need a bit more "punch"? Let’s work on it!
• Jan. 24th – STEEP STUFF
Here we come, Avalanche! A tactical and technical session for tackling steeper to really steep terrain. (subject to change, depending on snow conditions)
• Jan. 31st – INTRO TO BUMPS
You know there are folks that can’t get enough moguls, but the bumps scare you to death. Learn to love them through careful, step-by-step introduction to bump skiing. Most of our time will be on small bumps (Subject to change, depending on conditions)
• Feb 7th – BACK TO BASICS
Let’s revisit some good skiing skills. Working with movement patterns and basic skiing technique on intermediate, non-threatening terrain.
• Feb. 14th – GETTING MORE DYNAMIC
Expanding on technique to get more energy in your turns, pick up the intensity, and put more power and punch into your skiing.
• Feb. 21st – EXPLORING OFF PISTE
If the snow is deep and conditions are good, we'll explore easy glades and ungroomed natural terrain.
• Feb. 28th – STEEP STUFF II
Avalanche! Profile! A tactical and technical session for tackling steep terrain. (subject to change, depending on conditions)
• March 7th – BUMPS II
An intermediate lesson for bumps – getting comfortable with steeper and deeper moguls. Not for beginner bump skiers. (Subject to change, depending upon conditions)
• March 14th – ARC ‘EM OR PARK ‘EM
Working on turn shape and edging skills to really carve the ski. No pivot and skid in this session. Intermediate to easy black terrain.
• March 21nd – GIRLS JUST WANT TO HAVE FUN
The last session of the season and time to play, to celebrate a great year. Synchro skiing, exploring easy glades; whatever strikes our fancy!
Information and registration is available at the Brookside Learning Center every day from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. Classes will meet in front of Notchview Lodge, where the Junior Development classes meet.
