General Manager Cannon Mountain & Franconia Notch State Park

The New Hampshire Department of Natural and Cultural Resources, Division of Parks and Recreation seeks a General Manager for Cannon Mountain Ski Area and Franconia Notch State Park. Serving at the pleasure of the Commissioner of Natural and Cultural Resources and under general supervision of the Director of Parks and Recreation, the incumbent is part of the Director’s senior leadership team and must be an experienced, inspiring, and effective manager.

Summary Job Description: The General Manager performs highly responsible and complex management, administrative duties, and provides complete oversight and leadership of all aspects of park and ski area operations including but not limited to, fiduciary oversight, human resources, sales and marketing, concession and retail, ski and snowboard school, special events, guest services, community relations, parking and transportation, park safety and other areas as applicable.

Required: Ten years’ experience in a high-level administrative capacity concerned with ski area, recreation, or hospitality management, at least three years of which should include the supervision of a large number of employees engaged in outdoor recreational work or in a similar field requiring coordination of a variety of activities, and at least four years of which should include experience in large scale ski area and/or outdoor recreation operations, or any equivalent combination of related education and experience.

Education: Bachelor’s degree from a recognized college or university with a major study in parks and recreation, outdoor recreation, business management, planning, or a related field. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required experience.

Snowmaker - Full Time, Part Time, Temporary
Cannon Mountain Snowmakers are responsible for preparing, operating and maintaining tower guns, fan guns and portable snow guns. They will transport fan guns, portable guns and hoses to various locations around the mountain. Snowmakers are expected to monitor junction houses and inspect deadhead drains to ensure that water lines do not freeze. They will repair and/or replace damaged air and water hydrants and should be able to operate simple hand tools and equipment. Snowmakers must be able to load and unload equipment, materials and supplies from a variety of vehicles on a variety of terrain types.
Shifts: 10 or 8 hours shifts, day, evening, morning, night. Weekends as needed.
Salary: $16.85 - $19.06 per hour.

Ski Lift Operator - Full Time, Part Time, Seasonal
Cannon Mountain Ski Lift attendants will operate the ski lifts to ensure safe loading and unloading of guests. They are responsible for preparing the loading and unloading areas by shoveling, raking and sweeping chairs. Lift attendants must maintain a safe work area with a constant awareness of moving equipment and must understand and operate the basic controls on chairlifts. No experience necessary.
Shifts: 8 hour shifts. Weekends as needed.
Salary: $16.85 - $18.46 per hour.

Ski/Snowboard School Instructors - Full Time, Part Time, Seasonal
Cannon Mountain Ski and Snowboard Instructors will provide instruction for private or group lessons of all ages and skill level. They are expected to create and implement lesson plans based on the skill levels of the students. Instructors are responsible for the safety of their students and must enforce and teach ski resort rules. We are looking for instructors to work midweek with local schools, private lessons, kids group lessons and seasonal lessons. Instructors are required to work a minimum of 15 shifts throughout the ski season. Ski/ snowboard instructors are required to ski parallel comfortably on groomed terrain, have a strong knowledge of various techniques, excellent communication, patience and willingness to adapt to many different learning styles, and knowledge of behavior management when working with children.
Shifts: 4 or 8 hours shifts. Day shift, weekends required.
Salary: $14.50 - $21.10 per hour.

Ski Patrol - Full Time, Part Time, Seasonal
Cannon Mountain Ski Patrol will respond to and administer first aid to injured skiers and riders, sometimes in remote and challenging areas. They will participate in chair-lift evacuations. Ski Patrollers are responsible for maintaining on mountain safety including but not limited to, inspecting lifts and trails, set fencing and on-hill signage and trail maintenance. Ski Patrollers may be asked to run lifts and related equipment or snow machines.
Shifts: 7:30am - 4:30pm
Salary: Pay based on experience.

Snow Plow Driver - Full Time, Part Time, Seasonal
Cannon Mountain Snow Plow Drivers operate snow removal equipment to clear snow and ice from roads, parking lots, and sidewalks. They follow designated routes and schedules to ensure a timely and efficient snow removal, monitor weather conditions to adjusts plowing techniques as necessary, and keeps accurate records of work performed. Snow Plow Drivers are expected to perform routine maintenance on equipment. Previous experience operating snow removal equipment is preferred. Familiarity with power tools and equipment used in lawn care, tree trimming, and hardscape construction is a plus. Must be able to work in various weather conditions, including cold temperatures and heavy snowfall. Excellent time management skills and a strong attention to detail are necessary to follow instructions and meet strict deadlines. Please note: the job description is not intended to be all inclusive. Employees may be asked to perform other duties as assigned to meet the ongoing needs of the organization.
Shifts: 8 hour shifts. Day and morning shifts.
Salary Range: $16.21 - $18.85 per hour.

Snow Reporter- Full Time, Part Time, Seasonal
Cannon Mountain Snow Reporters are responsible for gathering operational and weather-related information to accurately keep the Cannon Mountain snow reports updated on both the website and external sites. The snow reporters must have excellent writing and communication skills. Canidates with photography and video editing skills are ideal, they will be asked to assist in content curation for our social media channels and website. Snow reporters should be a strong intermediate skier or snowboarder at a minimum, they will be asked to participate in on-hill photoshoots. They will assist with on-hill events, various other marketing duties and may be called to assists other departments as necessary. Early mornings are a must with a 6:00am start time. Only 2 positions available.
Salary Range: $16.21 - $17.46 per hour.
Shifts: Day shift, Thursday - Monday (Full Time) 40+/- hours a week. Day shift Tuesday - Wednesday and most Saturdays (Part Time) 30+/- hours a week.

Retail Store Clerk - Full Time, Part Time, Seasonal
Cannon Mountain Retail associates will work in the Cannon Mountain retail shop or the Tramway retail shop. Candidates must be able to lift 50Ibs and should be able to remain standing for long periods of time. Experience using a POS system is preferred. Must be able to provide top notch customer service with a positive attitude. Associates will be asked to arrange and stock shelves and assist manger with inventories. Must be able to handle large groups. Completion of 8th grade required.
Shifts: 8 hour shifts. Day shift, weekends required.
Salary Range: $16.21 - $17.46 per hour.

Ticket Sellers - Full Time, Part Time, Seasonal
Cannon Mountain Tickets Sellers will work in Guest Services selling tickets and collecting fees from guests. Operates register/ticket dispenser. Reconciles daily cash receipts with number and type of tickets sold. They are expected to answer questions from guests in regard to mountains facilities, conditions and events.
Shifts: 8 or 10 hour shifts. Day shift, weekends.
Salary Range: $16.21 - $17.46 per hour.

Ski/ Snowboard Rental and Tuning Technician - Full Time, Part Time, Seasonal
Cannon Mountain Ski/ Snowboard Technicians are responsible for assisting guests with ski and snowboard rentals. They will be expected to operate a POS, sell tickets and rental packages, take moneys and verify credit card transactions. Ski and snowboard technicians must be able to handle a high volume and busy atmosphere. Previous experience tuning skis and snowboards is a plus, but we will train.
Shift: 8 hour shift. Day shift, weekend.
Salary Range: $14.50 - $16.21 per hour.

Custodial Team - Full Time, Part Time, Seasonal
Cannon Mountain Custodial Team is responsible for general cleaning and sanitation of buildings including but not limited to washing windows, changing light bulbs, emptying waste receptables and cleaning restrooms, floors, tabletops and high touch surfaces. They will perform a variety of security functions including locking doors, windows, gates and setting security alarms. Custodial teams may also check heating equipment such as boilers, furnaces and compressors.
Shifts: 8 hours shifts. Day, night shifts, weekends.
Salary Range: $14.50 - $16.21 per hour.

Parking Attendant/ Snow Removal - Full Time, Part Time, Seasonal
Cannon Mountain Parking Attendants and Snow Removal teams help guest find proper and orderly parking spots and assist with the removal of snow from walkways, decks, stairs, entrances, and emergency exits. They will be expected to use hand and power tools to remove snow and ice, and may will be asked to assist in the general maintenace of the Cannon Mountain grounds, including but not limited to, tree trimming, hardscaping, planting, mulching, or irrigation. Parking Attendants/Snow Removal teams will be working outside in various weather conditions including cold temperatures and inclement weather. They should have strong physical stamina and will be asked to perform tasks that may require lifting, bending, pushing, and standing for long periods on time. Early mornings and weekends will be needed, schedules will vary with weather and guest volume.
Shifts: 4 or 8 hour shifts, mornings, some evenings
Salary Range: $14.50 - $16.21 per hour.
