What's Happening in Franconia Notch?
Wednesday, May 30 @ 3pm
Franconia Notch first caught the attention of explores and adventures in 1805 with the discovery of the Old Man hanging out on Cannon Cliff. In 1927 the state of New Hampshire purchased the 6,000-acre property that is Franconia Notch from the Society for the Protection of NH Forests. The following year Franconia Notch officially joined NH State Parks and was dedicated as a memorial to the New Hampshire Men and Women who served our country in times of war. Ten years later, in 1938, the first Aerial Tramway in America opened to the public. Then, the deed to the Flume Gorge was transferred to the State of NH in 1947, creating the Franconia Notch State Park that we know and love today.
Weather: Yes, there is rain in the forecast, but it is not all bad! Saturday will see significant rainfall, gusty winds and highs in the 50s. Skies will be mostly cloudy Sunday, and any rain will move out of the area in the morning time. Temps will stay on the chilly side Sunday. Monday the sun will make an appearance, and temps will reach into the 60s.

Attractions: Toss on a raincoat, poncho, or grab an umbrella and get out there. The Flume is spectacular when we have this much precipitation. Save the Tram trip and boat ride for Sunday! Reminder that Echo Lake Beach is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday through June 20. Don't forget to book your tickets online at the Flume Gorge and Aerial Tramway.
Hiking: Proceed with caution. Heavy rain Saturday gusty winds, and low temps will lead to dangerous hiking conditions. Trails will be slick and muddy. Rivers will be extremely high, and crossing may not be possible in some locations. Rain will move out of the area Sunday, but challenging trail conditions and swollen rivers will still be present. Elevated winds will make temperatures feel much colder.
Be sure to check out the Mount Washington's High Summits Forecast.
